ABSTRACT:
Trees signify important positions in the terrestrial ecosystem. The understanding of the diversity and distribution of trees is of great importance as it provides habitat for animals, birds, insects, and mammals, etc. This study was conducted to give the first comprehensive checklist of tree species of the Girnar eco-sensitive zone located in the western part of Gujarat state in India. The eco-sensitive zone is set aside for the conservation of the endangered Asiatic lion Panthera leo persica. The checklist comprises a total of 74 tree species belonging to 57 Genera and 27 different families of Angiosperms. The study highlights their common name, local name, IUCN status, flowering and fruiting months, which will provide prolific insight for designing conservation strategies for the Girnar eco-sensitive zone.
